Large mixed-use riverside development for the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

The dvelopment comprises two buildings housing residential units, new commercial floorspace and retail units as well as significant landscaping and public realm development. The non-residential elements consist of a boat house, café, office/workspaces, general retail spaces and a public house. The project is on a significant site right on the side of the River Thames and is a major development for the council, bringing a dilapidated site back to life and greatly enhancing the Thames path in the area.

The project will provide much needed public realm space and create a ‘hub’ for the community. The site is situated across from the famous Eel Pie Island and the only bridge to the island goes directly from the site itself so this has been a major consideration as part of the project. Extensive community consultation has been undertaken with local residents and businesses,

The non-residential elements are required to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating as part of the site’s planning conditions and Method are acting as BREEAM Assessor and AP on the project on behalf of the Client. Method are also conducting embodied carbon Life Cycle Assessment modelling on the two buildings as part of the BREEAM Excellent strategy. This was a key driving factor in the decision by the design team to opt for a CLT frame.
