St Keyna Primary School, Bristol

Refurbishment and extension of St Keyna Primary School in Keynsham, Bristol.

The refurbishment and extension of St Keyna Primary School in Keynsham, Bristol, is designed to support the school’s growth from a one-form entry (210 pupils) to a two-form entry facility accommodating up to 420 pupils.

This significant increase in capacity will be achieved through the construction of a new two-storey building which will be built to Passivhaus standards, ensuring exceptional energy efficiency and indoor comfort.

The new building will house six modern classrooms, alongside a dedicated SEN (Special Educational Needs) room and a multi-purpose space, supporting inclusive education and flexible learning environments. Heating and hot water will be provided via air source heat pumps, eliminating reliance on fossil fuels and aligning with the client’s sustainability goals. The predicted energy consumption of the building will be entirely off set by on-site photovoltaic (PV) panels, making the new extension net zero in operation.
