This 1,800m2, BREEAM Excellent state-of-the-art research facility includes Category 1 & 2 laboratories, as well as engineering laboratories and naturally ventilated office, meeting and conference spaces.
The heating and cooling strategy includes chilled beams in labs and a balanced ventilation system integrated with the fume cupboards. Incubators and autoclaves were also required.
The electrical infrastructure includes a standby generator to ensure emergency power is provided for essential facilities including the fume cups, incubators and autoclaves. A photovoltaic array on the roof helps to generate renewable electricity on site and reduce overall carbon dioxide emissions.
We provided thermal modelling, building physics, sustainability and M&E engineering services input on this project by firstly undertaking the initial feasibility study and then developing the M&E design, as well as the BREEAM and acoustic advice services, through RIBA Stages 1 to 7.
