This ESFA project is fully designed using BIM and comprises the comprehensive redevelopment of the existing school site with a new building adjacent to the existing main school building.

We modelled the new building to develop the environmental design and ensure that daylighting, ventilation, insulation and thermal mass are all optimised to provide high quality teaching spaces with comfortable conditions all year round.

The new classrooms are ventilated with hybrid ventilation units and the rooms feature exposed concrete soffits which help to moderate internal temperatures in summer and avoid overheating.

The local authority planning policy requires that at least 10% of the energy is from on-site renewable sources and thus the design includes a 45kW PV array to meet this requirement and this will help to reduce CO2 emissions and running costs for the school.

We coordinated a large number of complex utility diversions on the site to maintain existing supplies to the school during construction and to re-feed other buildings on the campus and link them to the new building.
