This 1,400-seat capacity new performing arts centre scheme acts as the hub for the College’s new Cultural Quarter and will extend and complements the existing facilities, which comprise of a dance studio, black box recording studio and practice studios.
Between the existing theatre and the new auditorium is a ‘Cultural Living Room’ (CLR) space, allowing views to the surrounding forest and providing an additional, flexible performance and exhibition space.
The building is situated within dense forest on the Wellington College campus in Crowthorne, with large, full-height timber cladding to create the illusion of blending into and connecting with the surroundings.
Studio Seilern Architects were shortlisted for the Architizer A+ Awards in the ‘Unbuilt Institutional’ category for this project.
