A 12,000m2 replacement secondary school procured through the ESFA framework. .
Harlington School is a state-of-the-art, 12,000 m² replacement secondary school delivered through the ESFA framework. Designed to accommodate 1,380 students, including a Sixth Form, the new facility also integrates a Specialist Autism Unit, a Sports Centre, a Public Library, and an Adult Education Centre.
Situated just 200 metres from the M4 motorway and 2 kilometres from Heathrow Airport, the site presented significant acoustic challenges. A comprehensive noise assessment informed a tailored design strategy that enabled hybrid ventilation across most of the building. Mechanical ventilation is used selectively, only where required to meet the ESFA Output Specification, ensuring both comfort and compliance. A substantial roofmounted photovoltaic (PV) array supports the local authority’s renewable energy targets, contributing to the building’s low-carbon footprint and long-term energy efficiency. The project also involved the reconfiguration of complex site utilities to maintain uninterrupted service to the adjacent Goals football academy.
A large roof mounted PV array helps to meet the local authority planning requirement for renewable energy. The scheme also includes the rearrangement of the complex site utilities to feed the Goals football academy to the south of the site.
