EPIC is a 3,000m² state of the art centre of excellence for innovation in microelectronics and photonics located in Paignton, Devon.

This innovation centre puts Torbay at the centre of one of the fastest-growing high-tech industries and an important centre for research, product design and the development of new technologies in the electronics and photonics sector.

The four-storey building provides 25,000 ft2 of space and includes 13 world-class labs, 27 offices, communal areas, meeting spaces and a classified cleanroom, providing unrivaled technical capability to support research and development, design, and new product development in multiple sectors. The cleanroom is strategically located on the top floor of EPIC allowing for the filtration system to be housed on the roof.

Low or Zero Carbon technologies were included to achieve a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions. Rainwater harvesting was assessed to reduce potable water use, and a green roof was considered with the intention of enhancing biodiversity.

Due to the building having exposed soffits in most locations, a truly collaborative approach was needed. The client also wished to view and visit their asset digitally prior to construction to ensure that every need of future users of the facility had been catered for.

We were appointed from project inception through to developed design for M&E design services and BREEAM advice and assessment services.
